Sauers Cares Barbie 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run-Supporting confidence in young girls

From the moment the first runner arrived, we knew it was going to be a great day at the Sauers Cares Barbie 5K! The event, formerly known as the Baci 5K, took place on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at Peace Valley Park. This year, Sauers Cares teamed up with Girls On The Run Southeastern Suburban PA to provide confidence boosting fitness programs to young girls in our community.

Girls On The Run Programs

Girls On The Run (GOTR) is a national non-profit organization with hundreds of independent councils throughout the United States. The Southeastern Suburban PA council supports thousands of young girls yearly from 3rd through 8th grade in Montgomery, Chester and Delaware Counties. GOTR offers programs to young girls designed to recognize and embrace their inner strength and make meaningful connections with others. This physical fitness based program provides weekly lessons facilitated by a team of trained volunteer coaches that is designed to enhance life skills development including managing emotions, fostering friendships and expressing empathy. At the end of the 8-week program cycle, coaches and participants celebrate with an empowering 5K!

Designing The Medal

When we began discussing ways to incorporate GOTR into the Sauers Cares Barbie 5K, an idea to have a medal design contest among the girls in the program was born. After several weeks, the perfect design had been submitted by Sophie. A simple drawing of a young girl wearing a GOTR t-shirt made for a perfect center to the event medal.

Thank You Barbies and Kens

Finally, we would like to thank everyone who came out for this event. With your energetic support, we were able to provide Girls On The Run programming to 25 girls in Southeaster Suburban PA as well as an additional 12 girls in Philadelphia and Bucks County!
