The Baci 5K
Sauers Cares and Simon's Heart
From the get-go, Sauers Cares was interested in the mission of Simon's Heart - a nonprofit that provides education to prevent sudden cardiac arrest and death in children, teens, and young adults. Founder Darren and his wife, Phyllis, started this impactful nonprofit after losing their son to a detectable heart condition, with the goal to ensure a future in which parents and communities don't lose children to detectable and treatable heart conditions.
Simon's Heart focuses their efforts on educating, training, and screening youths. Another initiative is GotAED, ensuring that AEDs are present in places where kids learn and play.
A Successful 5K!
As one of Sauers Cares' keystone events, our 5K is held in the spring. These 5K runs help to raise awareness about sudden cardiac arrest in youth. After our first two 5K races, 100% of proceeds went to further heart health initiatives.
Proceeds from this year's 5K were used to purchase 10 new tablets that are used by medical professionals to do heart screenings. Those tablets have been used to screen 110 children, 7 of which were found to have detectable heart conditions that are now being treated!
